Most bookends are sheet-metal brackets you would rather not see. These are meant to stand out and fill the gap at the end of a partly filled shelf. Because porcelain is heavy, even larger cookbooks stay where you put them.

Place them on a level shelf and gently push the books against them; the bookends will not tip over. Porcelain is hard but sensitive at the edges, so transport the pieces upright. A slightly damp cloth removes dust from the recesses.
