In a room with many solid-colored surfaces, a single pattern is often enough to lift the whole look. A cushion is the most affordable way to do this, because you can move it around or put it away as soon as you tire of it. And because only the cover is changed, the insert stays in place.

Use a 45- or 50-centimeter insert; the larger one fills the cover more tightly. Wash the cover inside out so the print retains its color. Sunlight falling on the sofa all day will eventually fade any print.
Put it on and return the cushion to its place.
